Those who have a mission in life will agree they have more clarity because it’s easier to make decisions, and they know the direction they’re headed.

People who have made a lasting difference in the world usually fulfilled their mission in life.

The key is to discover it and make it a part of our lives.

What is a Mission?

A mission is the predominant focus of our life. It defines what we want to dedicate our life to. Living a mission gives our life meaning.

Companies have mission statements that define why they exist, what their values are, and where they are heading.

A person’s mission is their “why” or purpose for what they do. It defines who they are, what their values are, and what matters most to them.

It helps clarify the story they are living, and what their life is about.

What Does it Mean to Have a Mission in Life?

To have a mission in life means:

* You know what success means to you and what your end destination is.

* You are focused beyond yourself or your achievements.

* You have a high level of self-awareness.

* You know the difference you want to make and why it’s important to you.

* You have projects to focus on that help you carry out your mission.

When you know what your mission is, things that do not align with it will fall away.

When I was in my twenties, I did not have a mission, nor did I know the importance of having one. Life was about work and building a career. I did not have an end destination to focus on.

Pursuing material success was not an inspiring mission. The successes I achieved did not matter and caused me to search for more.

As Anthony Robbins says, “The key to living is giving.”

When I decided what I wanted to dedicate my life to, things became clearer, and I knew what I needed to do.

My mission statement is: Not knowing what their purpose is in life causes people to feel disconnected and pursue success that is not meaningful. I inspire and empower those committed to personal growth and self-mastery to reconnect to their greatness, so they can do work they live and create the life they want.

Everything I do, from the content I create, to the products or services I offer, aligns with my mission. I do not wake up wondering what my day is going to be about because I have a mission to carry out.

5 Important Reasons to Have a Mission in Life

Here are five reasons to have a mission in life, so you can make your life more meaningful and feel the satisfaction of knowing what you do is making a difference.

1- You will have greater motivation. When you have a mission, there isn’t time to waste. How you use your time will improve because you will have a stronger drive to get things done.

2- You will know yourself better. Your mission will become a part of your identity. It will help you clarify your values and cause you to contemplate about who you are and the legacy you want to leave.

3- You will live a more intentional life. A mission gives you focus and direction. It will also make decisions promptly and say no to things that are not aligned to your mission.

4- You will acknowledge and own your personal power. Knowing you have a mission for your life will cause you to accept there is a higher purpose for your life. This will help you step into power and greatness, and serve others as best as you can.

5- You will develop stronger relationships. When you share what your mission is, you will have more engaging conversations, because people are always interested in doing things that will benefit others. You may attract the help or resources you need to have more success with your mission.

How to Create a Mission Statement for Your Life

The best mission statements either solve a problem, or are aspirational and aims to improve people’s lives.

Here are a few prompts that can help you clarify what is important to you, which can help you create a mission statement.

* What is a problem in the world that I wish would not exist, and why?

* If that problem did not exist, what would be happening in the world?

* What could happen if this problem is not solved?

* What would I do to solve this problem if time, money, or resources were not an issue?

* What will be required of me to carry out this mission? Who would I need to become?

* What could my life be like if I made it my mission to solve this problem?

After you have answered these questions, craft a statement to describe your mission, that makes you feel excited to carry it out.

Final Thoughts

When you have a mission in life, things become simpler because you will have more clarity. If you don’t know what your mission is, you may pursue success that won’t give you the fulfilment you are hoping to get.

If you dedicate your life to your mission, you will inspire others to do the same, which will help make a positive difference in the world.

Action Step: if you don’t have a mission in life, think about the difference having one will make. Use the prompts above to connect to something that matters to you. Create a statement that best describes what your mission is.
